Monadnock
Oil on canvas
20 x 30
What is a monadnock?
A monadnock is a hill or mountain rising conspicuously above the general level of the surrounding plain in a temperate climate zone.
This painting was inspired by Shiprock, a monadnock rising 1,500 feet above the high-desert plain of the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, New Mexico. It’s the remnant of a volcanic eruption that occurred about 30 million years ago.
